I recently found this knot and gave it a good try in South Padre a few weeks ago. I fished the same knot all week and never had a failure. This is by far the most slim knot you can tie for braid to flouro. It allows you to use a heavier flouro leader. It really goes through eyes really well. It took me a few hours to master, but it is well worth it. Check it out.

Howdy,

Hope everyone had a great Christmas break and was able to get on the water and catch some fish!

We finally got everything squared away, but our first meeting of the semester will be this Monday night at 7pm at Gander Mtn in the room in the front right corner of the building. We are not expecting any more blizzards so we should be able to have it this time!

We will be everything figured out that we are going to do this semester. We have the benefit tournament this summer, possible fishing trips, and a community project to give back.

If you did not pay dues for the year, it would be great if you would bring the $10 for this semester.

Hope to see everyone there!

Well I had the opportunity to get out this morning for a quick wade trip. Got to the shop and decided it was just to nice out to miss such a good winter fishing excursion. Grabbed the boat and the dog and headed to the marina. Winds 5 mph out of the E, water in the low 50's, clear skies and 60 degrees outside.

I figured the fish would be stacked along the soft edges of super flats with the low tides. Boy was I wrong! Fished a few favorite spots around super flats and headed north to Allyns. Fished way back in the back over mud and caught 3 undersized reds. By 11:30 I had enough and decided to take it to the house. On the way in I decided to run shallow and cut the corner at the super flats. Could not believe the school of reds I ran through on top of the flat. Made a quick circle and jumped out of the boat. Within 15 minutes had my limit of upper slot fish and was still catching. Lost 1 nice 22-23 inch trout at my feet (that is what my net is for right) and released about 3-4 limits of slot reds.

Thought I was going to have a slow day!

Got a chance to do some fishing the last few days. We did not feel like putting the boat in the water so decided to wade some of the back lakes of Shamrock.

Monday - Water was in the low 50's I would guess. I did not know since I was not in the boat but that should be about right. Wind was blowing less than 5mph from the N and the bays were dead calm.Skies were overcast till we came off at 11AM. I fished with my dad throwing Assassins in waist deep water over mud/grass/shell. Got in the trout so thick it was every cast and had some top water fun when I got tired of catching them on plastics. We only keep quality fish over 18" and ended up with 2 full trout limits and one nice slot red.

Tuesday - Water was same temperature. Wind was 5-10 out of the WSW. Overcast skies till we came off at 10:45AM. I was fishing the same areas of Shamrock with my dad and customer/now fishing friend Glen Martin. We threw Assassins all morning and the trout were still there. We ended up keeping 9 trout that were all over 17" and threw back plenty that would have kept but we did not need the fish. Great day on the water for a quick wade trip and no boat to clean.

Went out today for a bit to put some fish in the freezer. Over the holidays the circuit in the garage popped and all my fish thawed. Water temp today was 59 wind E 7-10 and tides out in the morning. It was raining lightly but not enough to really get you wet if you were already standing in the water.

Headed directly over to super flats with the low tides the trout were hanging off the edges in about 4 foot of water. kept 8 nice size trout from 18-20 inches for the freezer. No reds today on the flat. Ran back to the SE shore of Allyns Bight and found a nice school of reds held up in a deep pocket in the back lakes. Stood in one place and caught 5 or six but they were all under slot.

Headed back early and cooked 3 of the trout this evening for the family. No pictures this time - sorry.

Well, I guess I will start off the thread telling about the "average" trip we had to Port Mansfield with Capt Mike and Tricia McBride. Sorry for being long winded....

Group: Bobby, Joe, Nathan, Dan, Robert, Andrew, Alex, and I met up and headed south Sunday morning. We rendezvoused in Raymondville to stock up on groceries (with 8 college guys, make sure to buy about 17x as much food as you think you will need :/) Then headed to our sweet little fishing house in Mansfield. We arrived in Mansfield to deer walking all over the place IN TOWN!!! It was pretty cool to see bucks chasing does around in the front yard! We went out on the water for a bit but came back before dark to prepare for the morning to come. We ended up staying 3 doors down from the McBride's house. Mike walked down the road and invited us to his house. He showed us his pretty sweet man cave and then made us a fire to sit and tell stories around. Waking early put us to sleep early.

We woke up and made it to the ramp with overcast skies and no wind. The full moon had us expecting a great bite early. We loaded up on the McBride's boat and headed south.

First spot we hit up was, well, only one word describes it, epic! The 10 of us lined up and started walking in. The first fish of the trip was caught by Nathan, he hooked a HARD HEAD in one side of the mouth, and the other side of its mouth had a circle hook attached to a drum line! Only a super skilled fishermen like Nathan could pull that off! Then we walked up to a bar that trout were stacked up along. I think we had several times that 6 of us were hooked up at once! The trout were crazy! We put the hammer down on "schoolie" 18-23 in trout! The trout down there are obese! Everyone of them are crazy fat and pull like they are upset at the world! After hammering the trout we started catching reds. The reds were chilling with schools of mullet and they were fat and happy. There were several nice trout mixed in with the reds up to about 24 in.

In search of bigger trout we left them biting in search for a Mansfield Beast. The next spot we went to was epic as well! The 10 of us lined up again wading through this flat throwing at grass beds. There was at least 2 times that 7 of the 10 of us were hooked up with quality trout. There were a few more quality fish mixed in with multiple 23 and 24 in fish. The wind kept building and was turning the water into chocolate milk, so we headed further south in search of cleaner water.

The next and final spot had some really nice fish in it too. Andrew and Robert had top honors managing to catch some real trophies They each caught a B&C Blue crab on a lure! We caught some more reds and Bobby took top honors with the biggest trout of the day, a 5.5 lb beast that fell for a top water. Caught a few more trout and then headed back north to get back in and the fish cleaned before dark.

Port Mansfield has recently received a ton of water from rivers and creeks. All the freshwater was tough on the fishery for a while. Too much freshwater in the system resulted in dead sea grasses and tough fishing. The salinity has returned to normal and the area is coming back stronger than ever! The sea grasses are returning and there is more bait than the fish can eat! Everything is flourishing, there were water birds, ducks, geese, trout, reds, mullet, and crabs everywhere! Mike kept pointing out how great the place is doing and with help from the "just keep 5" limit on trout, the fishery is heading in a great direction! I can't wait to make it back down there again!

If you fish with Tricia, be prepared, she is not a novelty guide and she will out fish anyone with her paddle tails. Don't worry about it, just accept it

We headed back out Tuesday morning for a bit before having to leave and head back to reality. We went back down south to hit up one spot for a nice morning wade. Conditions were very similar when we headed back down there. There were a bunch of boats down there, but we squeezed up there and jumped out. The fishing was a lot slower. There were a ton of little reds still cruising around. The schoolie trout weren't anywhere to be found, but the trout we caught were of a higher quality. I landed a 23.5, 24, and a 27in trout (6.5 lbs boga)

Wind started blowing so we decided to call it and headed in and back north.

I highly recommend a trip with the McBrides. I will be back down there as soon as I can! They are class act people and worked hard to put us on some fish!

Alright guys, here are the rules and regulations for our tournament this Christmas Break! Fishing time begins tomorrow Dec 16, at 12:00 a.m.

Aggie Gulf Coast Fishermen Tournament

1.	There will be 2 categories: Redfish and Trout.

2.	The Tournament will be Dec 16, 2010 and end the day before class begins.

3.	Pictures must be taken of the fish on a measuring tape. (Check Stik, Golden Rule, Igloo, etc..) In the picture, the participant must be putting up the Gig ‘em sign (Thumbs up) in order for the picture/fish to count.

4.	Measuring of the fish:
a.	Measure the fish just like depicted in the TPWD Handbook. Close the mouth, lie the fish flat, pinch the tail, if using a soft measuring device, it must be laying on the flat surface (not along the top of the fish.)

5.	Fish can be caught by any means that are legal by TPWD laws.

6.	Fish must be caught along the Texas Coast but can be either inshore or offshore.

7.	In order to participate in the Tournament, you must be a club member and have paid your dues prior to catching and submitting any fish.

8.	Ties will be determined by the group of elected officials. If one of the officials is the one that caught the fish in question, then they have no say. Ties will then be broken by apparent weight of the fish via the picture for Trout and by the quantity of 28 in Redfish entered.

9.	The participant must catch the fish on their own. Must follow IGFA rules (same rules as the STAR tournament.)

10.	Trout:
a.	Longest trout will win.

11.	Redfish
a.	Redfish the closest to 28 in will win. In the event of a tie, the person that has the most 28 in redfish documented will win.

12.	This will be a running tournament for the summer and as you catch/photograph/measure your fish, you must post it on the forum, http://www.thesaltwaterline.com in the AGCF Section. We will have one thread going and everyone can post on that thread. Do not start your own thread for each fish.

13.	The same person cannot win both categories (Trout and Redfish). The winner can pick the category that they would like to be crowned the winner of and then 2nd place will be the winner of the opposite category.

14.	All contestants must have Texas fishing license and appropriate federal permits, if needed.

15.	Fish that have been mutilated will be disqualified

16.	Firearms, Bangsticks, Spear Guns, or Harpoons may not be used on any fish.

17.	Contestants may fish aboard any vessel as long as all tournament rules are followed. This includes guided trips, private boats and charter boats.

18.	Fish which have a minimum or maximum size limit will be disqualified if, in the judge’s opinion, the head or tail has been altered or damaged and cannot be measured accurately.

19.	All fish must be caught on a single rod and reel using bait and hooks or lures and hooks.

20.	Aggie Gulf Coast Tournament encourages all contestants to practice catch and release with fish that are not in contention for a trophy.

21.	Judges decisions will be final in all cases.

22.	Any contestant who wishes to report a violation of Aggie Gulf Coast Tournament rules shall notify the Aggie Gulf Coast Tournament Officials. The contestant reporting the violation shall put the incident in writing, detailing the specific Aggie Gulf Coast Tournament rule which has been violated. The written protest shall be hand delivered to the Aggie Gulf Coast Tournament Officials Any reported violation not made in conformity with these requirements will not be considered. The decision of the Aggie Gulf Coast Tournament Officials will be final in all cases.

My dad came down to visit on Monday and do a little fishing. We started the day out at a reasonable hour (8AM) - it was 48 degrees outside so why rush. The wind was blowing NE at about 8 and water temp was in the 50's. Tides have been pushed out and as low as I can remember them being since last year this time.

With the water pushed out it is all about fishing the edges of the flats. We headed over to our spot around east flats and got out to wade. Within 30 minutes we had our 6 slot reds and decided to stay a bit a catch reds for fun. They were so thick it was like fishing in a bath tub. All reds were caught on 5" assassins and knee to waist deep water. We must have released 6-10 limits of quality fish before getting tired of catching reds. At one point I was 5 fish for 5 casts.

Headed out to a favorite spot in Shamrock Cove to target some trout. Got out of the boat and started catch smaller trout right away. walked around quite a bit before finding the quality fish stacked up in a deep pocket off the flats. They were hitting the bait on the drop every cast and sized around 17" and up. We planned to keep a one man limit but took a few more to share with friends and family. Caught trout till we were tired of catching fish - what a great day of fishing and one I will remember a long time.

Had some time to kill on Tuesday Dec 7th so took the dog and a rod on the Jetty Boat over to the north jetty. Planned to stay a few hours and try to catch a couple quality fish. I arrived on the 10AM boat and the tide was ripping out and already low. My plan was to head to the end and work my way back to either catch the 12 or 2 boat back. Wind was blowing pretty brisk out of the ENE temp was 60's and water was guessing around low 60s.

My first stop at the end throwing on the channel side with an Assassin and 1/4oz jighead yielded a nice big trout. If you notice in the pic that is the 25 inch mark she passed a bit. Lost one more at the end on the gulf side that was not as big - but for the interest of the story will we say it went 12 lbs lol. Started my way back in and landed the other trout that was over 20 inches midway back on the gulf side using the same tactic. I love this time of year over there because the quality of fish is always there.

Ended my day there - I had a few great hours and the dog had a blast running around the jetty. No tarpon rolling around this trip but I know they have been out there.

Took my father and his friend out fishing a couple weeks ago and had a great day on the water. We started the morning in polar fleece and knit caps and ended up in tee shirts. The wind was calm NE and the bay looked like glass a lot of the day. The water temp was still 62 and tides were normal.

We started the day fishing south of port aransas and got 15 keeper trout on the first wade of the day that ranged from 17-19 inches. figured we had enough so decided to target some redfish. On the way over to Allyns Bight we hit a school of birds working - totally not expecting trout in port a under the birds. Ended up catching quality fish for 40 minutes under the birds around the super flats and Lydia Ann Channel. Must of had 100 trout that were all nice size. I can remember at least 5 times we had triple hook ups going. We left good fishing to chase some reds in Allyns and ended up catching more trout and a solo keeper red. On the way back in I did some sight casting along the Quarantine Shoreline to pick up another nice red.

We ended the day with 28 trout and 2 nice reds. Would could of easily limited on trout but had to many as it was. Nice day of fishing.
